The challenge

Masajin Ringyoo was founded in March 2009 by Masato Hakoyama, who moved from Tokyo to California in 2008. From its shop at 4855 Ruffner St in San Diego’s Kearny Mesa area, it offers maintenance, repair, certified inspections and high-performance customization. Through its affiliate Surgical Strike, Inc., it also manufactures custom parts, imports and exports vehicles (including to Japan) and builds racing machines. Its services are organized as Restore, Craft, Enhance, Source and Support.

With clients in Japan, Russia, Portugal and beyond, the company’s functional but dated site lacked the multilingual capability and modern design it needed. The new site had to:

  • Communicate in six languages: English, Japanese, Russian, Portuguese, Spanish and French
  • Render Japanese (kanji, hiragana and katakana) and Russian Cyrillic correctly
  • Translate technical automotive terms accurately and include e-commerce
  • Work smoothly on every device

What I did

Multilingual framework

We built the site on WordPress with Polylang to manage translations without slowing the site down. A language selector in the header, combined with browser-based language detection, sends visitors to the right version from their first visit.

Complex scripts

We created custom font stacks and CSS adjustments so Japanese text renders cleanly, optimized Cyrillic for Russian readers, and ran extensive cross-browser and device testing, including forms and product listings.

Cultural localization

Working with Masajin Ringyoo’s team, we localized content beyond direct translation so automotive terms resonate with each audience. For example, the Japanese content emphasizes precision engineering, while the Russian version highlights durability in challenging conditions.

Design and site sections

  • About: the company’s story from Tokyo roots to San Diego success
  • Services: detailed descriptions with integrated scheduling forms
  • History: a timeline of milestones, including the launch of Surgical Strike, Inc.
  • Shop: a multilingual store for custom parts, accessories and merchandise, with currency conversion for international buyers

The clean, responsive design uses high-quality images of restored cars and custom builds.

Multilingual SEO

We added hreflang tags so search engines, including Google Japan and Yandex in Russia, serve the correct language version, and set up analytics to track behavior across languages.
